Avanti Recruitment is working with an innovative, growing technology business looking for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead its software engineering function.
The company develops technology-led products combining cloud software, mobile applications and connected hardware. They're investing heavily in modern engineering practices, with a particular focus on AI-first, agentic software development.
This is a senior leadership role combining people management, technical oversight and ownership of engineering delivery.
The Role
Reporting to the IT Director and working closely with an established Principal Engineer, you'll be responsible for:

Leading and developing a multidisciplinary engineering team across front-end, back-end, mobile and DevOps.

Owning software delivery, engineering processes, quality and performance.

Driving the adoption of agentic AI development workflows, using tools such as Claude Code and Codex.

Improving development speed, efficiency and quality through AI-assisted engineering.

Working closely with Product Managers to deliver against the product roadmap.

Managing recruitment, team development, technical debt and platform reliability.
What We're Looking For

Proven experience leading software engineering teams as a Head of Engineering, Engineering Director or senior Engineering Manager.

Experience implementing and managing agentic AI coding workflows across an engineering team, not simply using AI tools individually.

Strong technical background in TypeScript, React and Node.js.

Good knowledge of GraphQL, PostgreSQL and cloud infrastructure, ideally Azure.

Experience with CI/CD, Docker and modern DevOps practices.

Strong people leadership, Agile delivery and stakeholder management skills.

Experience working alongside Principal or Staff Engineers.
Experience with React Native, IoT, connected hardware or product-led SaaS businesses would be advantageous.

Up to £130,000 basic salary (proposed range, subject to confirmation).
